Instructions:
Skirt:
  1. Measure bottom of skirt. Cut two strips of contrasting fabric 1 ½” times that measurement for the ruffle. If necessary, seam strips together to create a long enough length of fabric. Sew the strips together along the long side. Press seam allowance to one side and stitch close to the seam line to hold it in place. Press a narrow hem at the bottom edge and stitch. Machine stitch rick-rack to the edge of the hem.
  2. Sew short ends of riffle strip together, creating a circle. Sew two rows of gathering stitches along the unfinished edge of the ruffle fabric. Pull up gathers to fit bottom of skirt. Place ruffle under skirt hem and sew in place. Sew rick-rack to the skirt just above the ruffle with overlapping running stitches.
  3. Fuse adhesive to back of fabric remnants. Using patterns, trace and cut heart and circle appliques from the backed fabric.
  4. Fuse appliques to skirt. Using different colors of floss, stitch running, blanket and chain stitches around the appliques. Add additional embroidery stitches around pockets.
  5. To make belt, fold pink ribbon in half to find center point. Fuse iron-on adhesive to one half of belt, ending 1” from the cut edge. Fold ribbon in half and press to fuse. Press cut edges of ribbon ½” to inside of belt. Apply strip of iron-ion adhesive to inside of belt and fuse cut edges together. Sew a large button to the belt, near the folded edge. Thread belt through skirt belt loops and mark with a pin where folded edge overlaps. Apply Velcro™ strips to hold belt in place.
Jacket:
  1. Cut cuffs of jacket above sleeve seam opening. Following directions above for skirt, sew fabric ruffles and rick-rack around bottom edges of sleeves.
  2. Create pattern for collar applique. Trace outer edge of collar onto paper. Make the pattern ⅜” smaller than the edge of the collar. Fuse adhesive to back of fabric strip long enough to cut out pattern. Cut out collar applique and fuse to jacket. Embroider blanket and chain stitches around applique.
  3. Add appliques, buttons and embroidery stitches to jacket.
  4. To make flower, cut an 18” strip of fabric. Sew short ends right sides together, creating a circle. Fold it in half, wrong sides together and run gathering stitches along the raw edges. Pull stitches up to gather tightly and knot to secure. For leaves, cut two 6” lengths of green ribbon. Overlap cut ends to create loops and sew to jacket. Sew flower over leaves. Sew a large button to the center of the flower.
